The image at the top of this page is a projection devised by C. S. Peirce, the American philosopher and scientist whose metaphysics and semiotics underpins much of the thinking in our project. Peirce's 'quincuncial' projection has the unusual property of permitting maps of the Earth to be tessellated (tiled) without loss of continuity.
